Craniopharyngiomas are rare neoplasms in all species. They are epithelial neoplasms thought to arise from the remnants of Rathke’s pouch and therefore, are usually located in the sellar and suprasellar regions.  Aberrant craniopharyngeal structures in the neurohypophysis may occasionally be misdiagnosed as craniopharyngioma because they do not react with cytokeratins. 

The present example was recorded as a large mass in a male Wistar rat. It stains positive for cytokeratins.

3D Sperm Evaluation by Laser Scanning Microscopy

Different morphological abnormalities observerd in spermatids by Laser Scanning Microscopy (Olympus LEXT OLS4000) with magnifications up to above 17.000X. AnaPath and AnaPath Services have recently developed and implemented methods of qualitative sperm morphology analysis using a 3D Laser Scanning Microscope that provides quickly achived 3D images very similar to a SEM and gurantees a high troughput in comparison to SEM to ensure statistical reliability.

Different implant SLA(R)  surfaces under digital and laser digital microscopy evaluation at magnifications x1000 vs 20000x. The reason for such investigations is to find the cause for different reactions of osteointegration  and peri-implantar reactions in bone tissue.

Chordoma metastases in the lung of a male  RccHanTM WIST Rat at terminal sacrifice of oncogenicity study (104 weeks).  The lobulated tumor originating from remnants of the notochord is composed of groups of cells separated by fibrous septa. The tumor is extremely rare in Wistar rats. An incidence of approximately 0.05% was published for F344 rats (Stefanski et al., Chordomas in Fischer 344 Rats. Vet Pathol, 25: 42-47 (1988)). The authors described lung metastases in 42 (75%) out of 56 cases.

RccHan:WIST rat, oncogenicity study.

Early decedent animal. Sacrificed due to poor condition. A red-brown mass was noted during necropsy in the vertebral column. Histological evaluation revealed an hemangiosarcoma within a vertebral bone protruding to the surface. Note the capillary structures in pictures at higher magnifications.


Hypoplastic Seminiferous Tubule (Rat)

RccHan: WIST rat, 28-Day study.

Hypoplastic testicular tubule (Sertoli's cells only) with focal proliferation of Leydig's cells.


Dysplasia of Rete Testis (Dog)

18-Month old beagle dog with abnormality of rete testis. The rete is placed in the periphery of the testis. Normally, a rete testis is centrally located in dog testes.


Necrotizing/Ulcerative Inflammation of Cecum (Rabbit)

Different cases of necrotizing typhlitis in a rabbit study (approximately 5 months old animals). The rabbits died under these conditions. By age, an infection by clostridia or Tyzzer’s disease are likely the differential diagnose. In younger animals, E.coli infection causes similar lesions.
